I hope y'all enjoyed the house tour earlier this week. Last Sunday afternoon Tay and I took a stroll to our new place (above) and met our future landlord. She is the sweetest Southern lady and I feel so grateful for God's timing in all of this. Of course I am already day dreaming about all the new ways I will want to decorate our little home. I've been scouring over Pinterest, Design*Sponge, Apartment Therapy, the style-files, Young House Love and Ikea for ideas all week!
My daydreaming begins with first room of the house: the living room. At our new home, this space has a non-working fireplace, mantle, built-in shelves and huge windows. It will be the perfect spot for lounging and entertaining.
The walls will hopefully be painted a light gray to brighten up the space and offer a neutral palette for our furniture and allow accents to pop. The photo above is the perfect example. The rustic coffee table below also adds a richness to a light room.
My main goals are to find a textured rug and leather loveseat or fabric sofa. I'm also determined to refinish our wicker chairs so they can be an addition to the living room. The miss-matched balance of two chairs facing the coffee table & couch seems so natural. I'm also hoping to add little touches to our built in shelves, such as frames down the center like in the photo below and a little ladder.
It might not be possible, but I would kill to add some industrial lighting into our future home as well. A girl can dream right?

Oh, Marilisa! Your new home looks adorable & I'm so jealous! We're staying in our townhome so we can save to buy a home, but you make me want to change my mind! That reading nook with floor to ceiling bookshelves is one of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteWell we're definitely not buying just yet! But it will be nice to rent a house to ourselves instead of a duplex like we're in now. Taylor saw this post and said, "Are you going to make our house girly?" Haha
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine how your living room would look like, had this inspiration been followed. Gray, or any neutral color, is a good theme for the living room. Not only do they create an inviting atmosphere, but help make the room look wider and spacious. Anyway, I’m curious as to how your plans go. Any updates?
