just add coffee

A while back I shared about my plans for our kitchen, the brief process of painting and now here is just a small peek at one piece of the make over.

I pride myself in the fact that I have converted Taylor into a total coffee lover since getting married and now he's better at brewing than I am. We installed some open shelving and since this space is mainly used by Taylor prepare my daily cup of joe, I thought why not devote the shelves to mugs, tea cups and the like.

My in-laws gave us the witty sign as a Christmas gift and it always makes me smirk thinking about what Taylor has to deal with in the morning (me, Mrs. Grumpy Pants). While sipping on my cup of coffee, I thought I would start a little wish lists of things I would like to add to our sweet & simple kitchen:

Wood + glass storage containers

How do we not own a French press?

I love these mugs

A single serve blender for all the fruit smoothies we want to make

house update : kitchen

Our kitchen is still very much a work in progress (my goal is to have it painted by the end of the summer), but I'm content with where it is at for now. My first design goals were/are:
  • paint the walls yellow or pink or something else
  • paint a chalkboard wall
  • install open shelving
  • organize utensils
  • have some plants or herbs displayed

If we weren't renters I would love to paint the cabinets too, although I think a light blue will work better with the wood than the yellowish/cream/blah on the walls now. I plan on removing the shelf above the stove and will install either a hanging dish rack or peg board above to utilize the wall and storage.

Two or three wood shelves will go above the coffee pot to the right. I found some planks in our garage that will work - just need to find the right stain and distress them!

The space is tight, but functional and I wouldn't trade a thing for that sink window over looking the backyard. Even though no more than 3 people can ideally work in here at a time, I just love our little kitchen. And the dishwasher. I love my dishwasher :)

dream home {kitchen}

I'm excited to get back to discussing the new house. Now that it's March, we're only two months away from our move in date! I am especially looking forward to redecorating and working out of a new kitchen.

The kitchen in the new house is pretty tiny, but thankfully it has cabinets and plenty of storage. And it has a dishwasher!! Can I just say we will never appreciate a dishwasher more than after a year without one. To make the space functional, we will probably keep our little Ikea rolling cart for food prep and storage, but sit in the dining room for meals.

I don't know exactly what I want to do in terms of color. The other day I was eating a grapefruit for breakfast and just couldn't get over the gorgeous coloring of the tasty citrus- from the bright yellow peal to the vibrant pink flesh. It could very well be my inspiration.

Do you think peachy pink walls would look good or a bright & sunny yellow? Perhaps we will keep everything white and just use accents of the yellow and pink (if I can convince Tay to have anything pink period). One thing I do know for sure- we need a chalkboard wall.

It would be great to add open shelving as well. Not only is it a practical way to grab what you need, but pretty dishes can make wonderful displays of art on the wall.

For simple details, I like the idea of organizing utensils in pretty bowls on a serving tray. Herbs in tin tea canisters right by the window are a sweet touch too. And speaking of tea, who doesn't love tea cups hung under a shelf?

Right behind our sink is a window looking out to the backyard which will be the perfect spot to keep an eye on our new pup, Chief. What kitchen features are most important to you?

P.S. You can also check out my dining room and living room ideas too!
