Art + Soul: home.made

It's been said numerous times that Athens, although widely known for it's music scene, is quickly becoming even more well known for it's restaurant scene. One of my recently-discovered favorite spots in town is now home.made, located right on Baxter Street. Although I had known of the catering company for years, I had no idea they were serving lunch during the week until Hilary posted on Instagram.

Owner and chef Mimi Maumus is a true artist of divine southern food. After working for and studying under renowned chef Hugh Acheson at 5 & 10 she decided to find her own food identity and created home.made. Everything is fresh, local, seasonal and delicious. Their BLT with fried green tomatoes will make your heart sign and the pimento cheese straws are heaven in a bite. Seriously.

Have you been to home.made? I plan on taking my mother-in-law for lunch next week when she's in town. My hope is to have a client use them for catering in the future, but my plan in the meantime is to sign up for the next Supper Club! Who wants to join me?

Art + Soul: Double Dutch Press

Ever since taking a screen printing course in high school, I have been intrigued and inspired by the process. And naturally I was thrilled when Double Dutch Press opened right around the corner from my house back in 2012. Although I haven't been able to work with Katherine and Amanda until recently, their shop has been a favorite spot in Normaltown for a little while now.

They offer workshops right in their studio and are always open to creating custom work - like welcome bags and coasters for an upcoming wedding. I personally love to visit their shop to pick up last-minute gifts like a print, card, or tea towel.

Doesn't their Facebook page look like they have fun ALL the time?! If you're an Athens local, be sure to stop by Tuesday through Saturday (after grabbing a donut next door at Ike & Jane) and take a peak at all their awesome-ness! If you're not local you can still visit through their online shop.

P.S. My wishlist includes this Normaltown print - the two dogs remind me of Chief and Kola :)

Art + Soul: Copper & Torch

Over the past month I've tried to do a better job of keeping flowers and plants in our home. I especially love terrariums and what better way to display them than in a pretty hand-crafted glass planter from Copper & Torch. Lindsay Troutman is a talented artist with pieces ranging from vases to jewelry (even her necklaces can hold a terrarium!). I originally stumbled upon her work through Mattie who helped her with branding and they both did an incredible job with the logo and website design.

Visit Lindsay's shop to see more pretty pieces that would be darling in a windowsill. Also, if you're as inspired by independent artists as I am, Indie South Fair is May 3rd & 4th if you're in the Athens area!
